Introduction
Intercessor is a WordPress plugin for managing prayer requests from submission through moderation and community prayer activity.
It is designed for churches, ministries, and faith-based communities that need more than a simple contact form.
How Intercessor works
A typical workflow is:
- A visitor submits a prayer request.
- Intercessor applies the configured validation, privacy, rate-limit, and moderation rules.
- The request is stored in the WordPress database.
- A moderator reviews it when manual approval is enabled.
- Approved requests can appear on the Prayer Wall.
- Visitors can record that they prayed for a request.
- Requesters can receive submission, status-change, and scheduled prayer-count notifications depending on configuration.
Privacy model
Intercessor distinguishes anonymous from private requests:
- Anonymous: the request can be displayed publicly while the requester’s name is hidden.
- Private: the request is not displayed publicly and is intended for administrative/prayer-management use.
Data ownership
Intercessor stores its operational data in dedicated WordPress database tables. The plugin does not require an external database service. Google reCAPTCHA is the optional external service used when spam protection is enabled.
For recommendations on protecting sensitive requests and exports, see Security & Privacy.
Administrator-created prayer requests
In Intercessor 1.1.0, site administrators can also add prayer requests directly from the Prayer Requests list. A request may be personal or submitted on behalf of another person, and the administrator can choose its status during creation.
